Chris MacAskill  > Photography > Ofoto, Shutterfly, EZprints compared
Scans of 20 test prints sent to 12 labs. Ofoto (red dot), Shutterfly (yellow dot), and EZprints (blue dots) were finalists for best. Blue dot: autoenhance off. Double blue: autoenhance on. 30 customers ranging from pro photographers to consumers we asked to pick best and worst of each set of 4. Red bars represent votes for worst, green for best.

Chris MacAskill > Prints from this car were close and most of the 30 testers said they'd be happy with any of them. But they tended to choose one of the EZprints versions (blue dots), because they retained the red color of the car roofs.
Chris MacAskill > All testers quickly noticed how much sharper the Ofoto shot (red dot) looked, especially in the pink and yellow yarns. About half noticed, however, the odd lime green of Ofoto and then became conflicted on which shot to choose as best and worst.
Chris MacAskill > Most testers noticed that Ofoto and Shuttefly (red and yellow dots) tend to add yellow, making the flowers unrealistic, but some testers liked the warming effect it had on the somewhat pink complexions of the girls.
Chris MacAskill > The face of this child was underexposed and Ofoto clearly dominated user preference on this shot because their print came out lightest, something that would work against them on almost every other shot. Testers did not like Shutterfly's dark and color-shifted print.
Chris MacAskill > Testers did not like how light (they often said "overexposed") the Ofoto version was.
Chris MacAskill > Ofoto's version (red dot) was considered "washed out" but the EZprints auto-enhanced version (double-blue) was considered too dark. Some people complained that Shutterfly (yellow dot) was too yellow.
Chris MacAskill > Testers were not very happy with any of these and felt they were choosing the least of evils. But they choose Ofoto as their least favorite for having an absence of color.
Chris MacAskill > Testers had trouble choosing their least favorite because Shutterfly's was "too yellow" and Ofoto's was "too washed out." Testers made their choices quickly on this shot, saying the differences were obvious.
Chris MacAskill > Testers said this was hard to judge because they didn't know the colors but they didn't like the way Ofoto rendered the Nikon logo orange or that they cropped the bottom.
Testers were not very happy with any of these and felt they were choosing the least of evils. But they choose Ofoto as their least favorite for having an absence of color.
